Background

The Beast of the Valley is a bloodthirsty and territorial Brutal that stalks the vast expanse of the Shadowvalley.

"The Beast has a stocky and muscular build. It sports thick fur, a powerful neck, and massive jaws built to eviscerate trolls. The Brutal is built low to the ground and may be capable of climbing trees like its brethren. Itis likely that the Beast can only support such a large, powerful body because of the massive trolls it feeds on."

It is also believed that the Beast only hunts when midnight arrives, just like its smaller cousins, the Grim Beasts.

According to Master Hunter Lav, when the Beast hunts, it becomes perfectly invisible, its pitch-black fur seamlessly melding into the dark void of the night. When on the hunt, the Beast closes its bright crimson eyes, trusting its ears and nose to lead it to its prey. Even more terrifingly, the Beast's footsteps are perfectly silent. Such a gigantic monster should shake the earth with its every step, but somehow, the Beast managed to completely subvert our expectations.

Master Hunter Lav has recently confirmed that the Beast makes its home in a troll cave that is found in the southeastern corner of the Shadowvalley. There is no mistaking the Beast's lair for a troll lair, as the entrance is much wider than any troll lair in the area. Many Hunters believe that the Beast moved into a troll lair and made it larger by reshaping the stone walls with its massive jaws.

Master Hunter Lav also noted that the Beast only strays from its lair when it is hunting.

In Kamengrad's history

Many generations ago, Kamengrad was once the single greatest city on the Mainland, far outstripping its peers in Easthaven and Avan. Without any Brutals to limit Kamengrad's growth, it flourished and thrived, its residents becoming rich and prosperous.

But as their population steadily increased, so did the city's economy. Demand for pork from the wildboars skyrocketed in demand and the hunters responded by hunting even more frequently, oblivious to the fact that they had deadly competition.

The Shadowvalley rock trolls had been hunting much farther north than they normally would, due to the abrupt shortage of their favorite prey: wildboars. Eventually, Kamengrad noticed that the trolls were getting closer and a hunting limit on wildboars was instituted.

Unfortunately, the order came too late. While the trolls didn't become a problem, their vicious shadow had already followed their trail far north. Humanity had already broken the tenuous balance of nature. Now, it was only a matter of time before the Beast would cross paths with

Kamengrad Massacre

On the fateful day of the Kamengrad Massacre, the Beast of the Valley would forever make its mark on this great city's history. As Kamengrad's people slept, the Brutal hellion turned north to crush humanity's greatest bastion beneath its terrible claws and savage fangs.

As the moon rose, nature would finally come to exact its revenge. The Shadowvalley's unseen killer left Kamengrad ravaged and broken, ensuring that never again would Kamengrad regain its former glory.

However, unbeknownst to the few survivors, this slaughter would change their city in ways no one had foreseen. Today, the Kamengrad of the past is long dead, the Beast having shattered everything that defined them.

But in the end, the Kamengrad Massacre ultimately couldn't kill the survivors, who ushered in a new era.

The few survivors of the Kamengrad Massacre sought to learn from their mistakes, and now valued knowledge above all resources. This mindset would shape the core values of modern Kamengrad, being knowledge, and lack of ignorance.

To this day, even Kamengrad's surroundings reflect the despair and death of that fateful night. In the neighboring woods, the spirits of the Beast's victims roam, cursed to stand eternal vigil over their once great city. And due to these circumstances, it would come to be in modern Kamengrad that the first Spirit Hunters would be born.

In Aendisean history

It is widely believed among Kamengrad's researchers that Aendisea's Bane was summoned in a misguided attempt to kill the Beast of the Valley. There is no other problem that would warrant such an extreme response from the Aendiseans.

One of the Beast's past lairs was also found north of the Ruins of Aendisea, which supports this theory. The Aendiseans were possibly being caged in by the Beast and their expansion might have been halted by the monstrous creature. Master Hunter Lav also recalls seeing large scars on the Beast, which the Aendiseans probably played a part in.

Battle

Like other beast enemies, this Brutal deals mainly physical damage and has high dodge but fears Bleed and Fire damage. High armor and a good Focus/turn are key to survive a fight with the Beast. Stun Builds may face some difficulties on higher tiers if they can't keep the Petrify up, because their damage output will be considerably lessened.
